I did this because I happen to believe strongly in this issue. The Picture of the soldier is of course and African American CONFEDERATE SOLDIER. If you did not know Blacks fought and died under and for this flag alongside their White brothers in arms as well. Among them were also Mexican Americans, Native Americans, European Immigrants, and even chinese. I am a southerner and it pisses me off when non southerners come and tell us whats racist and whats not racist in our own home.

Who shall claim victory?!
Answer: NINJA!

I remembered seeing a movie, probably Gettysburg, where a southern soldier
admitted that he was only serving to defend his land and his family, that he
believed in that rather than in the institution of slavery. Given that and almost
150 years gone by, it should be fair to say that not all southerners are or were
racists, and it's a comforting notion.

Very true. The civil war wasn't about slavery or racism. The Southern states left the Union because their rights and say in government were not fairly being represented. Slavery wasn't an issue until later in the war. I could write a long essay about the topic, but I'll just agree with you.

It was gettysburg i remember that scene lol if we could only get some of those damn yankees and the government to stop twisting history for their own gain may be we wouldnt have to deal with the banning of our heritage

The Internet is like alcohol in some sense. It accentuates what you would do anyway. If you want to be a loner, you can be more alone. If you want to connect, it makes it easier to connect.

and then we were forced to change our state flag :(

The war WAS about racism, but not whites against blacks. It was the northern hatred of the South and it's people.

Well, sorry to tell you this. But that black soilder more then likely was either force to fight for the confedrate side or was promise his freedom if he did. I don't hardly think that he joined the confedrate side because he beleives in the south, which has oppress him. I do not have a problem with being proud of your hetirage, but why would be proud of one that produces and reprsents so much hate?
:iconhansvonrichtoven:
Well, I am sorry to tell you this but my numbers are sketchy but there were at least 9000 black men who fought in combat and at lesat 60000 black men serving the Confederate millitary in one way or another. On top of that there were black men being paid more than some white men where as in the yankee army they were not paid equally. Slave men fought as well as Freedmen and the numbers on each were about 1/2 and 1/2. All this does have sources from documents and such from state governments. There motives were mixed but among many were feelings of Confederate Patriotism. The Confederacy never produced hate and only represents hate in corrupted minds. However there was lots of hatred that resulted from post war Reconstruction that was intended for the Yankees but unfortunately found it self unleashed on the blacks. And considering even today there are black men who actively defend the confederate flag I dont think its producing hate today. The flag in my opinion symbolizes Diversity in Unification. In other words, many different kinds of people (Blacks, Whites, Native Americans, Mexicans, Germans, Irish, and Jews) fused together as one kind of people (Southerner) to protect the Southland.
